The Amici Flute Quartet returns to Performing Arts Society concert series with a brand new program featuring four different types of flutes. Friday June 8, 7:30pm at Pilgrim Congregational Church, 2850 Foothill Blvd., Redding. Admission is free, and donations are gratefully accepted.
Most of the pieces are late-20th and early 21st-century compositions or arrangements written expressly for flute quartet and showcasing a range of the flute family. The program includes original works by composers like Bozza, McMichael, and Berthomieu; arrangements of pieces by Stravinsky and Sibelius; a marimba duo + flute quartet; and a woodwind quartet.
The Amici Quartet is a collaboration of flutists from Shasta and Siskiyou counties who became friends while playing in Shasta Symphony Orchestra. Each member’s passion for flute originated early in life and has continued over the years, with active involvement in teaching and frequent performances in an array of professional and community ensembles. The group enjoys taking on fun and challenging repertoire and adding variety to their programs by sharing the spotlight with other instrumental ensembles.
Amici Quartet members are Joanie Smith, Julie Thrupp Titus, Ruth Polcari, and Sue Constantinides. Special guest artists for this program include Dwayne Corbin and Eric Whitmer (marimba), Lindsay McMullin Hastings (oboe), Vince Karlson (clarinet) and Dan Matthews (bassoon).
The Redding Performing Arts Society is a participating member of the Shasta County Arts Council.
